Catamount Update The Weekly Newsletter for St. Johnsbury School Families | | |
| | | | Greetings St. Johnsbury School Families,
We were so excited to welcome everyone back to school on Monday after what we hope was a relaxing and fun vacation week! With April Break behind us we are truly in the homestretch of this school year. Only 26 days left! The last weeks of the school year always go by quickly and undoubtedly this year won't be any different. There are many exciting activities and trips planned for students during these last weeks and we'll be celebrating our 8th graders as they get ready to leave us for the high school of their choice! It's an exciting time of the year and we hope that every student, their families and our staff make the most of it!
There are many parts of schools that impact a student's education but there is no single factor that has a greater impact than the educators. And in St. Johnsbury we are lucky to have amazing teachers, special educators, counselors, behavior support staff, nurses and para-educators, each of whom dedicates themselves to building strong relationships, preparing and delivering opportunities for students to learn and grow and support students' individual needs. Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week and at the St. Johnsbury School we use that week as an opportunity to thank and celebrate all of the amazing individuals who touch the lives of our community's students each and every day. Our Leadership Team has a week of treats, gifts and other excitement planned for our staff. We encourage you to send a message to thank your child's teacher and other adults in their school life. We know it will mean a lot!
Next Tuesday, May 7th is the re-vote for the STJSD budget. There will be an informational meeting here at school on Monday, May 6th at 6:00PM and the polls will be open on Tuesday from 8AM-7PM. We encourage everyone to find a few minutes in their day to come out and vote. And please remember, absentee ballots are available now at the Town Offices if you're unable to vote on Tuesday. We appreciate your voice and participation in this important process!
Please note: On Monday, May 6th, the St Johnsbury School will be participating in an emergency drill in collaboration with CALEX Ambulance, St. Johnsbury Fire Department and St. Johnsbury Police Department. The drill will occur shortly after 12:00 and will NOT include any students or staff members other than those that are part of our school safety team. A "medical emergency" will be reported on the third floor of our school and our school safety team, nurses and local emergency services will respond. The only impact this drill will have on students is that a No Passing announcement will be made, instructing all students and adults to remain in their classroom or other location. This drill is an opportunity for us to test our internal procedures and for emergency services to practice responding to a situation within our building. We are thankful to have CALEX, SJFD and SJPD close by and appreciate the opportunity to partner with them. If you have any questions, please reach out to Lydia Cochrane or Jeremy Ross.
This weekend the St. Johnsbury School Theater Department presents the musical Mary Poppins! All grades had the opportunity for a sneak preview this week and we hope that many of them and you will return to watch the full performances this weekend. Showtimes are Friday at 7:00PM, Saturday at 7:00PM and Sunday at 2:00PM. Our student actors and stage crew have been working incredibly hard over the past several months to prepare for this show and based on yesterday's preview, it will be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!!
We wish you all a wonderful weekend!
Take care,
Lydia and Jeremy | | | When you plant the right tree in the right place, it can help improve air and water quality, manage stormwater runoff, sequester carbon, help you save money on your utility bills, and make neighborhoods more enjoyable. It’s a win for you and your entire community.

B.O.C. is a BIPOC-centered camp for youth 12-17 years of age that takes place at the Common Ground Center in Starksboro. Our mission is to bring youth of color into nature and provide opportunities for connection, healing and joy. Campers will have the opportunity to choose activities including swimming, art, dance, yoga, hiking, archery, tie-dye, and so much more! This camp is a space for youth of color to simply be who they are. At the Info Session, we’ll share information about what to expect as a camper and what caregivers can expect when they send their kids to camp. Register for the Info Session. Can’t make it to the info session? We’re happy to meet with you. Just reach out!

Camp registration will be open until June 1st. We still have spots available for youth all over Vermont, so spread the word! The camp has a payment sliding scale of $25-$500. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. The true cost of camp is $1,000 per youth and this cost is subsidized by grants and donations. We appreciate any donations to support this camp. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Jennifer D'Agostino Jennifer is using Smore to create beautiful newsletters |
