Think Time: Formative Assessment
Empowers Teachers to Try New Practices

By Tereas Egan, Beth Cobb, and Marion Anastasia

"Students take on new responsibilities for their thinking and learning of their peers in this Vermont school, thanks to the use of formative assessment. At this time, the role of the teacher shifts. An external partner assisted educators in implementing the use of formative assessments, while teacher communities provide ongoing support and learning."

Below, I have attached links pertinent to our learning goals for the year. They are the School Wide Improvement, Action & Restructuring Plan;  the Commissioner's Required Actions and information about Supplemental Educational Services (SES).
As the instructional leader for the St. Johnsbury School, I will be working closely with the professional development team to develop and implement standards of practice for the language arts and mathematics curriculum, kindergarten through 8th grade.  We are creating units of study alongside the classroom and special education teachers that include common assessments, learning intentions and a vertical alignment with grade level expectations (GEs) and Vermont Standards.
In addition to curriculum development, we will continue to refine our formative assessment practices through the 'Keeping Learning on Track' professional development program. Our inservice days are committed to Teacher Learning Communities where teachers share strategies and techniques they use in daily practice to increase student achievement.
The data team and I will be collecting and analyzing  school wide data to drive instructional decisions and to inform our professional development focus.
Please feel free to stop in or call any time!
