Vermont is a member of the World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) Consortium.  The WIDA Consortium is dedicated to the design and implementation of high standards and equitable educational opportunities for ELLs.  ELLs are assessed annually with the ACCESS for ELLs English Language Proficiency Test to measure their attainment of the English Language Proficiency Standards.

Instruction for ELLs at St. Johnsbury School is based on the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards and the Vermont Framework of Standards, as described in the Grade Expectations. The ELL Program aims to develop students' social and academic language skills in four language domains: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
