Trade School Inquiry
Sixth grade students at the Saint Johnsbury School used the inquiry method to learn more about the history of their building. First they observed the Trade School sign carved into the building, reflected, and asked questions about the sign.
Next they did the same with the state historical sign outside the building. While the second sign answered some of their questions, it did not answer all.

A search of the Library of Congress site for primary sources from the World War I era when the Trade School was established helped students understand what was happening on the homefront during World War I. Using those sources and more inquiry, each student developed a web poster.
Finally, Peggy Pearl from the Fairbanks Museum spoke to students specifically about the establishment of the Saint Johnsbury Trade School and the many transformations the building has gone through.

Please take some time to browse through the web posters and, when you see a sixth grader, inquire about the history of the Saint Johnsbury Trade School.
